On a cool Friday evening with a packed house, the Durham Academy men’s soccer team managed to get the best of conference opponent Wake Christian, defeating the bulldogs by a score of 2-0. The first goal came in the early stages of the game. After knocking on the door for some time, the Cavaliers finally struck, with Matt Tucker managing to get a shoulder on a deflection off a corner kick, which sent the ball bounding into the top right corner. Wake Christian remained persistent for the remainder of the half, but the Cavalier defense managed to hold with a strong performance. The Cavaliers dominated for most of the second half with their strong defense and unmatched possession in the midfield. Nash Wilhelm-Hilkey managed to net the Cavaliers’ second goal with a great bit of individual skill that lead to a tap-in goal. This win brought the Cavs to 5-5 on the season and 1-2 in the conference. They face North Raleigh Christian Academy in an away match this coming Tuesday.
