former features reporter class of 2017
Ellie Dusek has just begun to feel the grasp of the creeping sense of doom, stress, and despair that only a junior at Durham Academy can truly experience. Aside from that, she is thrilled to be an upperclassman because it brings her great joy to help underclassmen navigate the hectic but wonderful thing that is high school. Ellie is a major nature lover. She spent one summer hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and that experience forever transformed her into a MAJOR nature nerd (she has a particular love for birds). Ellie is very passionate about music, theater, dancing, painting, and photography. She would gladly pursue any of those art forms, but she has a secret desire to become a blacksmith and play sitar (not at the same time, but that would be pretty rad). Ellie listens to podcasts religiously; some of her favorites include “Welcome to Nightvale,” “Snap Judgment,” “The Mystery Show,” “Serial,” and “This American Life.” Ellie is also a tea enthusiast (her favorite is lemon ginger with just a tad of honey). In general, she is currently most interested in eastern religious history, cultural anthropology, equality in the criminal justice system, environmental preservation, audio journalism, cartography, and old jazz music. To get a true sense of Ellie, imagine it is a sunny Friday; she is wearing a yellow sundress and doesn’t have any assignments. She walks around campus and greets every person she sees: strangers, friends, parents, and teachers, with a beaming smile. This is her dream of a perfect day. She is thrilled to be reporting for The Green and White this year and sincerely hopes to brighten up all of your days just a little bit.
